Rush at SAP Center: Parking, Transit and Where to Eat for Both Nights
Rush play SAP Center in downtown San Jose twice on the Fifty Something tour: Thursday, October 15 and Saturday, October 17, 2026, both starting at 7:30 PM. It is the band's first tour in eleven years, with Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson joined by drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold, and the run opened in Los Angeles on June 7. SAP Center's on-site ABC Lot holds about 1,500 cars with entrances on Santa Clara Street and Julian Street, lots open two hours before the show, and Diridon Station, with Caltrain, ACE, Capitol Corridor and VTA, is directly across the street.
A Thursday show and a Saturday show at the same arena are not the same evening, and a band that plays long sets makes the trip home the part to plan. Both are covered here.

Thursday and Saturday are different nights
On Thursday you are arriving in the tail of the evening commute. The 87 and the 280 into downtown are slow until about 6:30 PM, and Santa Clara Street from the 87 to the arena is a crawl when the lots open at 5:30. The Caltrain platforms at Diridon are full of people going the other way. The upside is that the arena empties into a quiet downtown; the exit is quick.
Saturday flips it. The roads are clear at 5 PM, and downtown is busy for a different reason: San Pedro Square, the bars along Santa Clara Street and the restaurants around the arena all have their weekend crowds before you add a sold-out arena. Book dinner if you want a table, and expect the ABC Lot to fill earlier than it does on a weeknight.
That Saturday is also the first day of Day Trip Festival at Discovery Meadow, running 2 PM to 10 PM about fifteen minutes' walk from the arena, and the Earthquakes host Nashville SC at PayPal Park at 7:30 PM. It is the busiest Saturday of the month downtown, so light rail or a garage booked ahead is the safer plan.
Rush sets have historically run around three hours, and this tour is built around the catalogue and a tribute to Neil Peart, who died in 2020. Assume the show ends near 10:30 PM on both nights and plan the trip home from there, not from 7:30.
Parking: the ABC Lot and the garages
The ABC Lot is the main on-site lot, roughly 1,500 spaces, with entries from Santa Clara Street and Julian Street. Lots open about two hours before the show. SAP Center does not publish flat rates; parking is sold per event through the arena's own booking and through SpotHero, and prepaying is the only way to guarantee a space in the ABC Lot. Without a prepaid pass you can be sent to an overflow lot.
Beyond the arena there are more than 3,000 spaces within a third of a mile, most of them city garages in the downtown core. For a Saturday show the garage strategy is usually the better one: park near Market Street or San Pedro Square, eat downtown, walk ten minutes to the arena, and leave against the flow while the ABC Lot is still queuing onto Santa Clara Street.
Our SAP Center guide goes through the lots and the garages in more detail, along with the accessibility drop-off arrangements.
Diridon Station is across the street
No other Bay Area arena has a mainline rail station this close. Diridon has Caltrain, ACE, Capitol Corridor, Amtrak and VTA buses, and VTA light rail stops at Diridon and on San Fernando Street at Delmas Avenue, both a short walk from the arena doors.
The catch is the timetable after 10:30 PM, and it is worse than most people expect. Caltrain is the one that works: the last northbound train to San Francisco leaves Diridon at 11:30 PM on both a weekday and a Saturday, and southbound trains to Tamien run until 1:23 AM. If you are heading to Gilroy, forget it, because the last southbound train that far leaves at 6:23 PM on weekdays, before the support act. ACE does not run on Saturdays at all and its last eastbound train leaves San Jose at 5:35 PM on a weekday. Capitol Corridor is no better for the trip home: the last eastbound service toward Oakland and Sacramento leaves at 6:55 PM on the Thursday and 8:05 PM on the Saturday, both before the show ends.
Light rail needs the same check. The Green Line runs through Diridon and along San Fernando Street at Delmas Avenue, and the last southbound train toward Campbell and Winchester leaves Diridon at 11:53 PM. Going the other way, the last train that runs all the way north to Old Ironsides leaves Diridon at 10:35 PM, which a three-hour show cuts fine. Later northbound trains stop short at Civic Center.
Rideshare and walking
Surge pricing after a sell-out at SAP Center is severe and the pickup scrum on Santa Clara Street lasts half an hour. Walking east toward San Pedro Square or south toward San Fernando Street before requesting a car is faster and cheaper every time. On Thursday the streets are quiet enough that a ten-minute walk to a pickup point is pleasant.
Getting in
Tickets are digital only. SAP Center stopped issuing physical tickets, so the barcode lives in the Ticketmaster or Sharks and SAP Center app on your phone. The ticket office opens on event days two hours before the start, sits in the southeast corner of the building, and is the one place in the arena that still takes cash.
Everywhere else is near cashless. Reverse ATMs by the North and South entrances turn cash into a prepaid card, and there is a normal ATM outside next to the ticket office. Screening is a walk-through weapons detection system plus X-ray for bags, which is the real reason the recommended bag is small.
SAP Center has not published a door time for either Rush night, which is unusual for this venue and worth watching. Its standing rule is that doors open an hour before the start time on the ticket, so plan for 6:30 PM and check the event page in the days before. There is no re-entry once you are in.
The bag policy: more relaxed than the stadiums
SAP Center recommends bags no larger than 5 x 9 x 2 inches for the fastest entry, and accepts bags up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches with X-ray screening, clear or not. Anything larger is refused, and the arena no longer offers a bag check or lockers, so there is nowhere to leave an oversized bag except the car. Medical bags and parenting bags are accommodated regardless of size. The current wording is on the arena bag policy page.
The prohibited-items list is standard for an arena: cans, glass bottles, hard-sided coolers, laser pens, selfie sticks, action cameras, balloons and noisemakers. Two entries surprise concert-goers: flowers and gifts for the performers are not allowed in.
Accessibility
Accessible parking is in Lot ABC at the standard rate, first come and limited, so the arena recommends buying parking in advance to guarantee the space. Drop-off is at the North Entrance curb in Lot B, reached from Montgomery Street; tell the attendant you are dropping off. A wheelchair ramp runs from that curb into the North Entrance, and elevators at both the North and South entrances reach every level.
Accessible seats are sold with a companion seat next to them, through Ticketmaster or at the ticket office, and same-day exchanges are handled at an information desk when seats allow. The information desks near sections 101 and 115 lend assistive listening devices against a photo ID, and hand out free sensory kits with noise-reducing headphones, anti-glare glasses and a fidget toy. Sensory kit holders can re-enter through the lane marked Extra Assistance. First aid is on the main concourse near section 102.
One timing note for anyone being collected. Santa Clara Street between Barack Obama Boulevard and Cahill Street closes to traffic for 20 to 30 minutes after an event, so a driver who arrives at the final song waits it out. The pick-up zones that stay open are on Stockton Avenue, Cahill Street and Almaden Boulevard.
What stays home
Smoking is not permitted in or around SAP Center, and the arena's prohibited-items rules apply from the door. California law prohibits cannabis consumption in public regardless of the venue. Whatever the evening involves, it happens at home, before you leave or after you are back.
That is easier at this arena than at any other in the South Bay, because the Purple Lotus downtown store is a twelve-minute walk away.
The downtown store is a twelve-minute walk from the arena
Purple Lotus at 66 West Santa Clara Street is a little over half a mile east of SAP Center along the same street, and it is open 8 AM to 10 PM. For anyone coming into downtown early, pickup on the way to dinner is the simplest plan there is. Show your ID, collect the order, drop it at home or in the car before you head to the arena. Both store locations keep the same hours.
For delivery, the timing is the same as any 7:30 PM show. Lotus NOW reaches most of San Jose in as little as 45 minutes, with most orders arriving within 45 to 90 minutes, and delivery runs 9 AM to 10 PM with the last same-day orders taken at 9 PM. A show that ends at 10:30 PM means an order placed afterward is a next-day order, so the afternoon is the window to use.
| Plan | Order by | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Lotus NOW to a San Jose address before you head downtown | Before 5 PM on Thursday; before 4 PM on Saturday | A delivery that lands before you leave, with margin for traffic |
| Pickup on the way to dinner | Any time before 10 PM | The downtown store, on the walk between the arena and San Pedro Square |
| Something for after the show | The same afternoon | Delivery closes before the encore; add it to the earlier order |
Orders carry a $50 minimum and a $3.99 flat fee. First-time delivery customers get 30% off with code NEW30, and offers do not stack.
Dinner: Little Italy is two blocks away
San Jose's Little Italy sits at West St. John Street and North Almaden Avenue, two blocks from the arena, with a cluster of Italian restaurants that fill up on any SAP Center night. Book for Saturday. San Pedro Square Market is a ten-minute walk east, works without a reservation and stays open after a 10:30 PM finish. Santa Clara Street between the arena and Market Street has the bars.
On Thursday, most kitchens near the arena take a walk-in at 5:30 PM. On Saturday, the same places have a wait by 6.
If this is your first time at SAP Center
The arena is compact, the sightlines are good from most of the upper bowl, and the walk from any entrance to any seat is short. Our Sharks pre-season guide covers the same building on a hockey night, which is useful if you have only been for a game and wonder how a concert differs: same lots, same station, a later finish.
