Where to Watch NFL in San Jose: The 2026 Season Guide

The 2026 NFL season opens on Wednesday, September 9 - not the usual Thursday. The league moved the opener to make room for a packed international week, so the Seahawks host the Patriots on Wednesday night and Week 1 runs through Monday September 14. The 49ers open on the road, which means their first home game at Levi's Stadium is Sunday September 20.

That second detail catches people out every year, and it catches them out more than usual in 2026. Plenty of people will plan a Week 1 trip to Levi's for a game that is not there.

Week 1 at a glance

Week 1 closesMonday September 14 — Broncos at Chiefs

The Wednesday start is genuinely unusual. The NFL has opened on a Thursday for years, so anyone working off habit will be a day late.

Where to watch in San Jose

San Jose is well served for this, and the options split roughly by whether you want a proper sports bar or somewhere you can also eat well.

Start with opening time, not with the venue. On the West Coast the early window kicks off at 10 AM Pacific, and most sports bars in San Jose do not open until 11. That single fact decides where you can actually go, and almost every listing gets it wrong.

Rocco's Ballpark2531 Newhall St, Santa Clara11 AM11 screens, Sunday Ticket, sound on

For the 10 AM window, Rookies is the answer. Both locations open at 9 AM specifically for NFL Sundays and show every game. There are no reservations; it is first come, first served - so on a big Sunday the 9 AM opening is the reservation. The downtown site has over thirty-five 4K TVs; Willow Glen is the fallback when downtown fills.

The Old Wagon Saloon on San Pedro Square opens its bar at 10 AM, which clears the early kickoff. It is a BBQ saloon with televisions rather than a sports room, and Sundays there carry other programming, so ring ahead if the game is the whole point.

For the late window, the field opens up. Zone 8 inside Casino M8trix has the best screens in the city by some distance over forty, plus two 200-inch displays and runs to 1 AM. It is 21+, being on a casino floor. Rocco's Ballpark carries NFL Sunday Ticket with the sound on, which is rarer than it should be. Note it is in Santa Clara, not San Jose, despite what several listings say.

Yard House at Santana Row is the easy group choice big menu, 100+ draughts, and a walkable strip around it if nobody can agree. It gets packed on 49ers Sundays with people watching as well as people heading to Levi's.

Downtown has the advantage of VTA light rail, which matters more than it sounds on a day when everyone is drinking.

Watching at home instead

For a lot of people the honest answer is that home is better than a bar you can hear the commentary, you are not queueing for a drink at halftime, and the 1 PM window means you are not out all evening.

A few practical notes if that is the plan.

Sunday early games start at 10 AM Pacific. That is the thing East Coast transplants forget. A 1 PM ET kickoff is a 10 AM start here, which makes NFL Sunday a morning event on this coast rather than an afternoon one.

The doubleheader runs 10 AM to roughly 4:30 PM, then Sunday Night Football starts at 5:20 PM Pacific.

Sort everything the night before or the morning of. Sunday late morning is one of the busier delivery windows of the week during the season, precisely because everyone realises at 9:45 AM that they have not sorted anything.

Picking a bar that actually suits the game

Not all football viewing is the same, and the venue that works for one kind of Sunday is wrong for another.

A 49ers game with a group. You want somewhere that will be loud and full of people wearing the same colours. Santana Row on a 49ers Sunday delivers that, and the walkability means a group that cannot agree on food still ends up in the same place.

An out-of-market team. This is the harder ask. If you moved here from Buffalo or Green Bay, you want somewhere with enough screens and enough audio zones to actually follow your game rather than the 49ers. Ask before you commit - the bigger sports bars will usually put a game on a specific screen if you get there early and ask nicely. Turning up at kickoff and hoping is how you end up watching a game you do not care about.

Fantasy or multiple games. You want screen count over atmosphere. The larger rooms downtown are better for this than the restaurant-led options.

Thursday and Monday night games. Much quieter, and easier to walk into anywhere. Monday Night Football on this coast starts at 5:15 PM Pacific, which is genuinely convenient rather than a late night.

The West Coast football problem, and how people solve it

Worth saying because it shapes the whole season here.

A 1 PM Eastern kickoff is 10 AM Pacific. That means the main Sunday slate runs from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, and by the time the East Coast is settling in for the evening game, it is dinner time here.

What that means practically:

Sunday morning is the event. Whatever you are doing needs to be sorted before 10 AM, not at noon. That is why the late-morning delivery window is the busiest of the football week.

Bars open early on Sundays during the season. Many that would not otherwise open before 11 AM will run a 9 or 9:30 opening for football.

You get your Sunday evening back. The trade-off for early kickoffs is that the doubleheader is done by half four, and Sunday Night Football is at a civilised hour. A West Coast NFL Sunday is a morning commitment that leaves the rest of the day intact.

Red-eye games are a myth here. Nothing on the NFL schedule requires staying up late on the West Coast. Even Monday night is done by 8:30 PM Pacific.

What is on at Purple Lotus this season

Jersey Sunday. Wear a jersey on any Sunday in September and there is a discount at both stores. Any team, any era, any condition.

Football Kick Off Party, Sunday September 13, at Purple Lotus Downtown. In-store, during the Week 1 Sunday slate. 21+ only, with valid ID. Check the deals page for timings on the day.

New here? Your first delivery order is 30% off with code NEW30. Offers do not stack, so on a Sunday you get whichever is better for your order, not both.

One thing worth saying plainly: this is a retail event, not a consumption event. Nothing is consumed on site - a licensed shop floor is not a lounge, and public consumption is illegal in California regardless of where you are.

Going to a game instead of watching one

If the plan is Levi's Stadium rather than a screen, that is a different piece of logistics entirely, and we have written it up separately for the September 20 home opener parking, the transit route that costs $5 instead of $120, the bag policy, and a day-game plan.

The short version worth knowing here: official stadium parking runs $50 to $120 prepaid, while parking at a VTA light rail station and riding the Green or Orange line to Great America Station costs free to $5. And Levi's bans backpacks outright, clear or not, which is the single most common reason people get turned away at the gate.

Getting set up before kickoff

Order early on Sunday. The late-morning window before the 10 AM games is busy, and it gets busier as the season goes on.

Both stores open at 8 AM, seven days a week, which is comfortably before any kickoff on this coast.

Delivery terms: $50 minimum, flat $3.99 fee, 8 AM to 10 PM daily. Lotus NOW priority delivery covers the San Jose zone in as little as 45 minutes, typically 45 to 90 minutes. Standard same-day delivery reaches 50+ Bay Area cities on a 1 to 2 hour window chosen at checkout.

Have ID ready at the door. Valid, unexpired, 21+, with the name matching the order. Drivers cannot hand an order to someone else, which on a Sunday with a house full of people is the thing that most often goes wrong.

Hosting a game day at home

If you are the one with the big television, a few things worth planning.

Numbers matter more than food. A 10 AM kickoff means people arrive having not really had breakfast and not yet wanting lunch. Something that sits across both is the safe call.

Order the night before. Sunday morning delivery during the season is one of the busiest windows of the week, and the people who order at 9:45 for a 10 AM kickoff are the ones who end up watching the first quarter waiting for a driver.

Only the person who ordered can receive it. Their ID has to match. On a Sunday with a house full of people this is the single most common thing that goes wrong someone orders, pops out, and nobody else can legally accept it.

Daily limits are per person. California caps adult-use purchases at 28.5 grams of flower and 8 grams of concentrate per customer per day. Hosting a group does not raise your own allowance.

Everyone present needs to be 21 or over. A driver with reason to think otherwise cannot complete the delivery.

The rest of the season

Week 1 is the start of a long run of reasons to be out in San Jose.

The 49ers home schedule picks up on September 20 and runs through the autumn, with the November stretch - Raiders on the 8th, a Sunday-night Vikings game on the 22nd, Seahawks on the 29th - the heaviest cluster of the year.

The Sharks are back at SAP Center by the end of September, with pre-season on the 22nd and 24th and the regular season opening in October. Downtown gets busy on those nights in a way it does not otherwise.

Between them, from mid-September onward there is something on most weekends, and downtown parking gets correspondingly harder. Worth factoring into any plan that involves driving into the centre after about 5 PM.

The rules, briefly

Cannabis cannot be consumed in public in California. That includes Levi's Stadium, its parking lots, sports bars, and the pavement outside any of them. Every venue prohibits it on its own terms as well.

Nothing at the in-store party involves consumption. It is a retail event.

If you have consumed, do not drive. On a Sunday during football season this is not an abstract point - cannabis DUI is enforced exactly as alcohol DUI is, and VTA light rail exists.
